Fundraising & Activism
As a children's doctor I believe that my role includes a duty and mandate to advocate on behalf of the vulnerable in society, raising awareness of issues, supporting causes and pushing for legislative change that influences positively the health and wellbeing of children and society at large. This is particularly pertinent in areas where I have specific expertise or experience such as lung disease, air pollution, and child health. As such I have served as children's doctor for Transplant Sport UK (Now Transplant Active, a charity promoting physical activity in organ transplant recipients), spoken at demonstrations by Stop Killing Cyclists (a group campaigning for safer cycling and active transport, including infrastructure and air quality), played a role in BBC Children in Need, and raised money for the CF Trust, Asthma and Lung UK, Medical Aid for Palestinians, Rosie Maternity and Barts Charity, amongst others. I support campaigns to improve conditions for NHS staff and patients, including industrial action by nurses and doctors, previously working with Campaign group EveryDoctor and singing with NHS Singers on the NHS Anniversary single "Won't Let Go".
